“You don’t need to invent anything, you just have to do traditional research where you look at history and then compliment that with scientific research where you’re trying to do something new. That can lead to a lot in the business and technology sectors these days” – Bill Buxton

FIFA 10 leaves PES 2010 in the dust

Videogamer.com has posted an extensive PES 2010 review. Even though it is a better game than its predecessor, it is evident that EA has won the battle with FIFA 10.

PES 2010 is a better game than PES 2009, but not significantly so. PES 2010 is an enjoyable, satisfying football video game, but FIFA 10 is the best football video game ever made

Playing and reviewing FIFA 10 a few weeks before PES 2010 does the latter game no favours. In comparison, PES 2010′s players feel sluggish and unresponsive. PES has always felt this way to a degree, but it’s never been so pronounced. The ball moves with minimal realism. Run animations are as robotic as ever. Cross field passes often trigger kicking animations that defy the laws of physics. Shooting motions fail to convince.

Google Street View in Canada is simply AWESOME!

For those looking to get a REAL street view of the GTA, there is no tool like Google Street View. The quality and details provided are simply OUTSTANDING. Google Street View allows you to get an “in-situ” idea of the surrounding for a specific address, in this particular case, Toronto, Canada.

Additionally, if you pay closer attention, you will find that almost all people faces and license plates are automatically blurred for privacy protection purposes. I was able to experiment with Google Street View at the beginning but having it in a familiar “neighborhood” gives you an idea on how good, crisp and accurate this piece of technology is. There is so much potential – like embedding augmented reality technology in order to show ads from real stores. The possibilities are endless.

Another cool feature from Google Street View is the ability to post user’s photos from that address, providing up-to-date information on the constantly changing surroundings.

Can you imagine having a 360 virtual tour of your next vacation spot? Checking restaurants and attractions offers in real time? At a Street Level?

Anyone would like to play tennis at High Park? ;)

#Natal like technology on Hitachi's new HDTVs

Hitachi is implementing Natal like technology on their new HDTV lineup. Looks like the 3D motion sensing technology is the new trend; as Hitachi demonstrated their prototype of a gesture control at CEATEC JAPAN 2009. You can see how the user can navigate through the menus and tuning the sound volume up and down using his hand only…
