“You don’t need to invent anything, you just have to do traditional research where you look at history and then compliment that with scientific research where you’re trying to do something new. That can lead to a lot in the business and technology sectors these days” – Bill Buxton

The Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Will Be Bigger Than Valdez In 40 Days

Here’s an infographic detailing the main points of the current oil spill crisis, caused by a BP oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico that exploded and sank, killing 11 workers aboard.

As you’ll see, the graphs illustrate all the main points of the story, including the rate of the spill and the number of ships being deployed to fight it.

But the most alarming stat is at the bottom of this graphic, which comes courtesy of GDS Digital. If the oil well causing the spill isn’t plugged in 50 days, it will overtake Exxon Valdez as the largest oil spill in U.S. history. What the graphic doesn’t mention is that the oil rig causing the spill originally sank on April 23rd–meaning that we’re already ten days in, with no end in sight. Not to mention what happens if the well-head goes completely belly up–in that case, the spillage rate will increase many fold.

Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, we are a plague!

"I realized that we’re not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but we humans do not. We move to an area, and multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way we can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, we are a plague"

At this point, it’s known that the

well is pumping 5,000 barrels of oil into the gulf every day

Five key features that define Google Buzz

Five key features that define Google Buzz:

• Automatic friends lists (friends are added automatically who you have emailed them on Gmail)
• “Rich fast sharing” combines sources like Picasa and Twitter into a single feed, and it includes full-sized photo browsing
• Public and private sharing (swap between family and friends)
• Inbox integration (instead of emailing you with updates, like Facebook might, Buzz features emails that update dynamically with all Buzz thread content, like the photo viewer we mentioned above)
• “Recommended Buzz” puts friend-of-friend content into your stream, even if you’re not acquainted. Recommendations learn over time with your feedback.

3 Things I hate about the iPad

1. No Multitasking
This is DISSAPOINTING. This was meant to compete against netbooks but without multitasking? Not even close. You cannot even download music from iTunes while browsing the web or using an IM app while listening to your music. Sorry, I will wait for iPad 2.0

2. No Camera
No words can describe or explain the lack of a “tiny” camera on this thing. Perhaps it is related to the multitasking issue? or it is because of the huge load to the new Arm processor? We will never know for sure

3. No Flash
No Hulu? What about those millions of websites with full flash elements? I’m pretty sure Apple was thinking on all of us – users – when decided to let this one out…yeah right!

Canada makes it easier for temporary residents to apply for work permits or extend their visit

Temporary residents seeking work permits or an extension of their visit in Canada can now apply online, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.

“Extending our online services to more temporary residents will significantly facilitate the application process by providing faster, more accessible and efficient services,” said Minister Kenney.

Forms submitted by mail often need to be returned because they are incomplete, adding additional time to the process. Applications online can only be submitted if they are complete, thereby contributing to faster processing. The service is open to all temporary residents except for co-op program work permit applicants.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) intends to make all types of applications available online in the future.

CIC first began offering online applications in June 2008, international students studying in Canada being the first to have access. Since then, international students have submitted close to 33,000 online applications. International students at over 200 participating educational institutions have been able to apply online for an off-campus work permit, confirm their eligibility online and renew their study permit while in Canada. They can also use our online services to apply for or extend the status of their dependent family members currently living in Canada.

Applicants can access CIC’s online services.

Furthermore, applicants who gain skilled work experience in Canada may be eligible to apply for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class.

FIFA 10 leaves PES 2010 in the dust

Videogamer.com has posted an extensive PES 2010 review. Even though it is a better game than its predecessor, it is evident that EA has won the battle with FIFA 10.

PES 2010 is a better game than PES 2009, but not significantly so. PES 2010 is an enjoyable, satisfying football video game, but FIFA 10 is the best football video game ever made

Playing and reviewing FIFA 10 a few weeks before PES 2010 does the latter game no favours. In comparison, PES 2010′s players feel sluggish and unresponsive. PES has always felt this way to a degree, but it’s never been so pronounced. The ball moves with minimal realism. Run animations are as robotic as ever. Cross field passes often trigger kicking animations that defy the laws of physics. Shooting motions fail to convince.
